Latest Economic and Trade Information on Hong Kong

  • Hong Kong’s economy expanded by 4.0% year-on-year in real terms in the first half of 2017, after growing by 2% in 2016. Latest real GDP growth forecast for 2017 revised up to 3-4%.
  • The value of retail sales, in nominal terms, dropped by 0.6% year-on-year in January-June 2017, after the decline of 8.1% for 2016.
  • Hong Kong’s merchandise exports increased by 8.5% year-on-year in January-July 2017, after a marginal decrease of 0.5% in 2016. Hong Kong’s merchandise exports are projected to grow by 5% as a whole in 2017.
  • The HKSAR Government and Ministry of Commerce signed the Investment Agreement and Agreement on Economic and Technical Cooperation under the framework of CEPA on 28 June 2017.
